Doctor Appointment Transportation

Sunrise provides free pick-up and drop-off service to doctor appointments on Tuesdays within 5 miles of the community.

  • Sign up at the Concierge desk
  • Appointments should be scheduled before 5:00 PM to ensure a return trip
  • Sign-up deadline: 12:00 noon on the Saturday prior (confirmed by the Activities and Volunteer Coordinator)
  • Bring the appropriate paperwork from the Wellness Office to take to your appointment

Public Transportation

Metrobus

The nearest bus stop is two blocks away on Chain Bridge Road at the intersection of Chain Bridge Road and Hunter Mill.

  • The 15M bus operates on weekdays, approximately every half hour:
    • Mornings: 6:00 – 8:30 AM
    • Afternoons: 3:00 – 6:30 PM
  • Connects with other bus lines in Northern Virginia and the Metrorail system throughout the Washington metropolitan area
  • Cost depends on distance traveled
  • People with disabilities can travel on Metrobus and Metrorail for half the regular rush-hour fare at all times

MetroAccess

A shared-ride transportation service for people who are unable to use fixed-route public transit due to disability.

  1. You and your healthcare provider must certify your disability
  2. Visit the Metro Transit Accessibility Center in Washington for final approval and a MetroAccess pass
  3. Once approved, schedule MetroAccess transport to your destination

Cost: $7.00 each way

Fairfax County Connector

Stops at the Chain Bridge Road Metrobus stop and travels to the Vienna/Fairfax Metrorail station for trains to Washington and Maryland.

  • Trains depart every few minutes
  • Cost varies with distance

Taxis

Several taxi companies serve the area and can be arranged through the Concierge. Standard rates apply based on distance.

Residents on the Sunrise community bus

Sunrise organizes regularly scheduled bus trips. All trips are listed on the monthly activities calendar. To sign up, contact the Concierge or the Activities and Volunteer Coordinator.

Sign-up sheets for outings are at the Concierge desk — trips are on a first-come, first-served basis.
